Chapter 4

Painted Faces and Long Hair
"You Let the Fire Out!"
Perspective: Ralph
What things are you having trouble adjusting to on the island that are different from your life at home in England?
No parents and having to get food and make shelter on our own.
How do you feel about the littluns?
They’re alright. They don’t bother us much but they don’t help around the island.
What do they do with their time?
They play and eat fruit.
Why do you all paint your faces?
Jack said that the pigs could see us so we had to blend in with the forest.
How do you feel when your face is painted?
Mine was not painted but I’m sure it felt weird.
Why doesn't the passing ship see you on the island?
Jack had let the fire out and they couldn't see our smoke.
Why was the fire allowed to go out?
Jack and his hunters cared more about hunting and getting meat then keeping the fire going and
How do you re-assert your chieftainship? (How do you take charge of the boys once again?)
I didn't want to but I had to remind Jack that I was still the leader by being stern with him and not letting him get away with any crap.

Chapter two ~ Fire on the Mountain

Lord of the flies

Chapter two ~ Fire on the Mountain

“Oh Geez Look at All That Smoke!”

Perspective~ Simon

Dear Diary,
Today, Jack, Ralph, I went on an expedition to see if we were on an island. Like we predicted, we found that we were. On our way back, we came across a piglet stuck in some creepers. Jack took out his knife, as if to kill the piglet but with a martyred expression on his face, he never brought his arm down to stab the piglet. Even though we both knew why he couldn’t kill the piglet I had to ask. “Next time. Next time there will be no mercy.” Jack said with an officious voice as he slammed his knife into the tree bark. When we got back, we had another meeting. As soon as Ralph told us we needed a fire so the navy could find us, everyone ran for the top of the mountain leaving piggy and Ralph behind. The errant cries of the group faded away and Ralph started up the mountain.
After we gathered enough wood, we realized we needed a way to start the fire. Jack was first to suggest Piggy’s specs and soon after pinched them right off his face. We had finally got the fire going and suddenly the small fire had become an ebullience, capering fire. It had gotten out of control and Piggy remembered about the small boy and was worried with the fire. He had become so mature in the past few hours and im truly surprised.

chapter one- sound of the shell

Lord of the flies
Chapter one ~ The Sound of the Shell
“The Lonely Island”
Perspective~ piggy
Dear diary,
Today, the plane I was in crashed on an island. After scanning the area, I noticed a motif of fallen palm trees. A fallen plane could do all this damage was incredulous. Although I thought I was alone, I was wrong. Through the forest, a boy with fair skin came near. He had a strong looking body; like a boxer and he seemed to not care about anything. After a while, I proffered for an introduction but he did not seem interested in returning the offer. Soon after, Ralph, the boy I had just met, found a conch in a pool of water. As he continued to blow it, boys of different sizes and shapes came from all over the island. One group stood out the most. They had a leader, Jack, and seemed very kept and orderly. Since I knew most names, I started introducing them to Jack. I knew he was not interested, when he said, “Shut up, Fatty. You’re talking to much.” I don’t know whats worse; being called Fatty, or having Ralph say my name was Piggy after I told him I did not want to be called that.
I think I would have looked up to Jack, but I did not like how he judged me before he got to know me. I understand and know, that I am chubby. I don’t need him to point it out in front of everyone.
When Ralph and Jack were going on an expedition to see if we were on an island, I felt hurt that he chose Simon instead of me. I was with him first and when he found the conch, but was soon replaced by Jack and Simon. I’m glad that Jack is only in charge of the choir boys, and Ralph is the chief of everyone else.
